As the coordinatorof the Regenerative Agriculture Alliance of Serbia, ABE recently facilitated a pivotal meeting with alliance members. The gathering served as a vital platform to review the progress of regenerative agriculture in Serbia, address ongoing challenges, and strategize for the future of sustainable farming ecosystems.
Reviewing successes and confronting challenges
The meeting was an excellent opportunity for all Alliance members to share their concrete achievements in promoting and implementing regenerative practices within their respective institutions and sectors. It is inspiring to see that the Alliance’s activities, ranging from comprehensive educational programs to the establishment of practical demonstration farms, are successfully spreading across the whole of Serbia.
However, transforming an entire agricultural system comes with hurdles. During the session, partners engaged in open and honest discussions about the ongoing challenges we face on the ground. The most pressing issues identified were:
- A lack of systemic support for farmers who are actively making the transition to regenerative practices.
- Significant barriers when it comes to accessing financial resources and funding.
- The critical need to strengthen public awareness regarding the foundational importance of soil health.
Defining the future: Key questions for systemic change
After presenting the Alliance’s recent activities, the focus shifted to the fundamental questions that will shape our future work. To ensure that our efforts remain impactful and scientifically grounded, the consortium debated several core concepts:
“What exactly does regenerative agriculture mean to us in our local context?”
“How do we measure, verify, and know that a practice is truly regenerative?”
“Which key actors and stakeholders are absolutely necessary to achieve real systemic change?”
Next steps
The insights and conclusions drawn from these discussions will directly shape the upcoming actions and strategies of the RegAgri Alliance. We extend our deepest gratitude to all our partners for their active participation, transparency, and valuable insights.
