ABE Presents Regenerative Agriculture at AKIS Meeting

The Association of Balkan Eco-Innovation (ABE) participated in an AKIS (Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems) meeting, where our colleague Dušan presented the work of ABE and the projects currently being implemented, with a particular focus on the Regenerative Agriculture Alliance of Serbia.

Drawing on practical, field-based examples, Dušan presented regenerative agriculture as an approach that goes beyond food production. He highlighted its role in soil restoration, biodiversity enhancement, and long-term resilience of agricultural systems, especially in the context of climate change. Particular emphasis was placed on working directly with farmers, schools, and local communities, as well as on the importance of Field Days and hands-on workshops as tools for knowledge transfer, trust-building, and real-world application of regenerative practices.

The presentation also opened broader reflections on how time and information are used as resources in agriculture today, how willing stakeholders are to challenge established practices, and whether Serbia can develop agricultural models based on knowledge exchange, collaboration, and long-term thinking. Dušan emphasized that the Alliance for Regenerative Agriculture Serbia functions as an open network of organizations and individuals, with ABE acting as a coordinator that connects diverse actors and supports joint initiatives.

AKIS meetings provide an important platform for such exchanges, bringing together farmers, advisors, researchers, institutions, and other key stakeholders. Their core objective is to ensure that knowledge does not remain siloed, but is shared, adapted, and applied in practice, particularly in the fields of climate-smart and regenerative agriculture.
